What’s in the community

Buckingham, which was incorporated as a village in 1855 and a city in 1890, is now part of the City of Gatineau and has a population of 20,000. It is a quiet community near the Ottawa River, and the Lièvre River, which the Algonquins named Wabos Sipi, runs through the city offering opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, pedal boating, paddle boarding and swimming. There’s also a free boat launch.

Along with grocery stores, pharmacies, a Canadian Tire and a Tim Hortons, there are schools, a nearby hospital, large parks and recreational opportunities, including golf courses, as well as a long waterfront trail.

Buckingham is served by Gatineau’s STO public transit system.
