Multi-award-winning Laurysen Kitchens shows the breadth of what it can do with this project in the 2023 Reno Tour — the company is about more than kitchens, says CEO Caroline Castrucci.
A small update “grew like a mushroom to encompass the entire home,” she says. The emphasis was on not only updating but customizing the home to fit the owners’ personalities and ensuring ample storage and wall display space for this downsizing couple.
The Reno Tour is presented by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) and RenoMark (a national program that identifies professional contractors who have signed on to a code of conduct that protects the homeowner).
This home is one of seven that can be seen in person on Oct. 1. The tour is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online or at either of Habitat’s ReStore locations: 768 Belfast Rd. at Ottawa Train Yards or 3 Iber Rd. in Stittsville.

Q: What made you decide to join the tour this year?
A: It was an opportunity to show that Laurysen Kitchens is not just kitchens, it is the whole home. We supplied and installed millwork and cabinetry in every room.
Q: Tell us about this project.
A: The owners had to downsize to about one-third of the size of their former large country home, so storage and wall space were key. The project started as a small renovation of the ensuite bath, primary walk-in closet, laundry room and powder room. It grew like a mushroom to encompass the entire home, including the staircase and full basement fit up, baseboards, window trim, passage doors, flooring, appliances, furnace, air conditioner, hot water tank… everything except the fireplace surround and the tub in the main bath were replaced.
Q: What kinds of things should visitors watch out for when they tour the project?
A: Attention to detail and the use of space throughout the home. The homeowners will be on site along with some of our designers. We will have brochures available and before pictures of the kitchen and basement.
Q: Tell us a bit about your company.
A: Laurysen Kitchens has been in business for 53 years, since 1970, and was started by John and Adril Laurysen. We are embarking on a couple of new projects, one being our new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Carleton Place that will be 100,000 square feet.
The second thing will be our new showroom on Colonnade Road. It will have 11 full kitchen displays, along with vanities, laundry, closets and home offices. The plan is to open the new showroom in early 2024 and move to the new manufacturing facility from our current Carp Road location in mid-2024.
