Refresh your space: Get the year off to a good start

The holidays are behind us and winter has settled in, which means it’s time to refresh your space.

Feeling a bit restless and need a little “lift” in your home? Get the new year off to a great start by incorporating some of these quick and easy ways to add some joy.

One of my favourite ways to bring new energy into my home is with flowers. In January, tulips are my go-to; they give me the sense that spring is around the corner.

I recently moved and had a friend come and visit. She created this lovely vignette for me that was just perfect and I wanted to share it with you so you can create your own version using items you already have.

What you’ll need:

  • Tray
  • Two glass jars of different heights
  • 1 knitted leg warmer (thrifted)
  • Water
  • Tulips
  • Votive candle in a stemless wine glass

Cut the leg warmer and slide the pieces over the jars. Add water and the tulips, then light the candle and enjoy!

Storage is a sore spot for many. We feel we never have enough storage, and clutter seems to take over. I love using unique boxes and baskets to keep clutter at bay.

Here are some examples of how I do that:

I love cushions! For me, changing up cushions can really make a difference to refresh your space.

Did you know you can purchase cushion covers and use your existing cushions?

These two cushion covers are my favourites. They have texture, lots of interest and breathe new life into my rooms. Best of all, cushion covers are much cheaper than buying cushions!

Carve out a new space

Is there a spot in your home you can use in a new way? A small reading area? A place for your plants? Why not re-envision and repurpose a space just for you? You’ll be glad you did!

This is my space right in my front foyer. It’s a cute little corner where I can grab a cup of tea and read a good book. It’s a perfect spot, nestled by the stairway. Every time I pass by it, I smile.

Bathrooms need some new life, too!

There are so many small “spa-like” things you can add to your bathroom that won’t break the bank and will add new life to your space.

Some examples:

  • New patterned or solid towels
  • Baskets
  • Plants
  • New rug
  • Small table
  • Glass container to hold soaps, etc.
  • Change up your artwork

Any of these changes will bring new energy to your bathroom. Try it. You’ll notice it right away.

I hope some of these ideas have inspired you to refresh your space and get your year off to a great start!
