When it comes to thrifting finds, thrift stores aren’t just for clothes. They have a host of unique, interesting pieces that just might be the perfect addition for your home.
Anyone who reads my columns knows I love thrifting — the thrill of the hunt, finding a one-of-a-kind item either for me or a client and at a bargain price.
With that in mind, in this column I’ll highlight special pieces I have thrifted and share a little bit about each one. At the end you can find the thrift stores I visited and a bonus tip.
Bird on a candleholder
It’s not quite a bird on a wire, but you get the idea. This unique candleholder is wrought iron with four wooden birds gracing the stem and stands 13 inches (33 centimetres) tall.
It’s a perfect addition for a coffee table display and I added a battery-operated candle so I can use it anytime. $3.99
Knotted art
Did you know macramé is trending? It’s a great way to add texture and cosiness to your space. This handmade macramé/beaded wall hanging is 12×27 inches (30×68 cm) and is a great Boho-inspired piece that perfect for a bedroom or living space. $7.99
Bowled over
This handmade bowl on a stand is small in size but big in character. At five inches in diameter (12 cm), it’s a perfect addition to a charcuterie board for dips. I only wish the artist’s name was on the piece so I could research it. $2.99
All boxed up
How’s this for stylish storage? It’s a two-piece turquoise wooden box that’s 12 inches long by six inches wide (30×15 cm) and has a unique wrought-iron branch handle. $5.99
Face plant
I couldn’t resist the pun! Part art, part practical plant pot, this “bust” of a woman is cement and 10 inches high (25 cm). It’s perfect to showcase any plant inside or out and is right on trend. $10.99
Handy storage
A woven basket is another way to add texture and cosiness to your home, and it makes for very handy storage. This one is six inches high by 12 inches wide (15×30 cm), perfect for bathroom hand towels. $4.99
Bargain art
Art pieces are great thrift finds. You may not find a priceless masterpiece, but chances are you can find something that speaks to you and helps decorate your space, like this burlap canvas piece with an Eiffel Tower graphic. It’s 20×30 inches (50×75 cm) and was $9.99.
Measuring up
For an owl collector like me, this set was a must! The adorable four-piece measuring cup set in turquoise ceramic measures ¼ to 1½ cups. $4.99 for the set.
Perfect timing
For those of us of a certain age, many had a clock like this during our childhood. I just had to pick it up as it brought back so many memories.
The vintage white metal wind-up clock is 5×6 inches (12×15 cm) and is a great addition to any bookshelf. I wouldn’t use it as an alarm clock, though, as I remember how loud the ticking was! $1.99.
Vintage reading
I love this special edition book I found, Wreck and Sinking of the Titanic by Marshall Everett. As a collector, I love how the cover was updated. This 7×9-inch book (xxx) is a perfect addition to my end table vignette. $2.99
