The Dale & Baseline: A Brigil rental is “all about building community”

Human connection and quality of life are at the heart of any Brigil rental community, and that’s especially true of its two newest Ottawa developments: The Dale 2 at 99 Parkdale Ave. in Hintonburg and Baseline at 2944 Baseline Rd. in Nepean. Both Brigil rental buildings are due to begin occupancy early this fall, and registration for units is already moving briskly.

“We’re building a complete lifestyle in our projects, and community and human connection are at the heart of everything we do,” says Jessy Desjardins, Brigil’s vice-president of planning and development.

“At The Dale and Baseline, we have terraces, lounges, fitness centres, pools, rooftop facilities and other common amenities to bring people together. At The Dale, we’re even building a third-storey walkway between the original building and the new one so everyone can share the great common spaces.”

The Dale also features a café bistro, a workshop, an electric vehicle and bike-sharing service and other extras while Baseline’s attractions include a games room, hot tub and even a reading nook with a birdhouse-style library where residents can exchange books.

“It’s all about building community, which is so important no matter where we live,” says Jessy.

Brigil’s luxury developments are the kind of place you’re eager to come home to for many other reasons.

The hotel-inspired one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments at The Dale and Baseline are flooded with natural light thanks to oversized bay windows that frame panoramas of the National Capital Region, and most units feature private balconies.

Cooking and gathering is a pleasure in the efficient kitchens with their quartz countertops, up-to-the-minute backsplashes and stainless-steel appliances.

Upscale light fixtures, elegant glass showers, superior soundproofing and other quality features round out life in a Brigil rental unit.

Life is made even easier with everything from cable and high-speed internet to heating, cooling, water and electricity consumption all included in one monthly rent payment.

“You can just come home and relax at the end of the day without even thinking about all those details,” says Jessy.

MORE: The Dale is Ottawa’s tallest rental building, for now

Brigil, a multi-award-winning builder based in Gatineau, was launched in 1985 by Jessy’s father, Gilles Desjardins. The family business has built more than 10,000 new homes, most of them rental communities, on both sides of the Ottawa River from Buckingham and Orléans in the east to Aylmer and Kanate Lakes in the west.

Its rental properties range from high-rise towers to three- and four-storey buildings located in small towns like Buckingham, suburban neighbourhood such as Orléans, and urban environments like Hintonburg. Brigil’s 460 St. Laurent serves another segment of Ottawa’s population, with its focus on active retirement.

The terrace at The Dale is designed with tranquility and community in mind.

The company designs its communities around four pillars: human connection, sustainability and mobility, respect for heritage, and support of the local economy.

At The Dale and Baseline, human connection is built into the fabric of both projects, which house their own communities and are integral parts of the surrounding neighbourhood.

The properties have also been developed with the environmental concerns of sustainability and mobility front-of-mind. Quality construction materials and finishes mean waste is minimized and a long lifecycle assured. The communities have also been built with public transit in mind: The Dale, which will have an electric vehicle charging station, is just a walk away from the Tunney’s Pasture LRT, and Baseline is well served by OC Transpo as well as being close to both the Queensway and Highway 416 for longer trips.

Both communities are served by bike paths, walking trails and green space, and contribute to the City of Ottawa’s densification strategy to reduce urban sprawl and help mitigate climate change.

The Dale and Baseline are also designed with their respective neighbourhoods and heritage in mind.

The Dale’s podium pays tribute to the traditional low-rise nature of Hintonburg while the project’s elegant twin towers look to the future of the evolving neighbourhood.

Baseline, which has a low-rise podium that will house commercial space, has been similarly designed with respect for its surroundings and the environment.

Brigil’s new projects will also support the local economy by welcoming local businesses to its premises and ensuring residents are aware of all that the neighbourhoods have to offer.

“Human connection and the other three pillars are part of our DNA,” says Jessy. “We’re proud of how we’re able to offer safe, comfortable homes to our residents while having a positive impact on the greater community. For us, that’s what building is all about.”
