It’s expensive, only available in small batches and you have to travel a ways to get it, but Benjamin Moore Century paint has texture and the company is betting its new high-end collection will be a hit with the design-savvy crowd.
The curated collection of 75 colours comes pre-mixed to ensure better control of the exact tint and hue. Colours range from mid-tone to dark shades – inspired by natural elements such as minerals, gems, spices, herbs and plants – in an “intricately balanced” formulation, the company says in a release.
It also has texture. Once applied and dried, the Soft Touch Matte finish offers “a tactile experience similar to that of a soft leather glove and is designed to bring a never-before-seen depth of colour to the saturated hues in the palette,” says Harriette Martins, Benjamin Moore’s senior brand manager.
But it’s not cheap. A one-gallon container (3.78 litres) is $125.
“Century was developed to meet the needs of high-end designers who want to offer their clients a truly unique colour experience,” says Martins.
At the moment, it’s not available in Ottawa, although the company will be rolling it out across the country in the fall. For now, the closest store carrying it is Colour Explosions Decorating in Woodbridge, Ont.
