ARTium Design Build has a whole-home renovation to showcase on the 2021 Reno Tour.
The home saw significant structural alterations, a complete kitchen redo and renovations to every other room. Several walls were removed so that what had previously been a chopped up rental property was transformed into open spaces with fixtures and finishes that reflected the homeowners’ personal taste.
The Reno Tour is presented by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association and showcases renovation projects by members of RenoMark (a program where participating companies are pre-screened and must meet strict guidelines).
The virtual tour offers interactive 3D walk-throughs that let you explore each project at your own pace and includes descriptions of each of the projects, many augmented with details such as before-and-after photos, intro videos and other multimedia labels.
Here’s more info on ARTium and its project (edited for clarity).
Q: What made you decide to join the tour this year?
A: We join the Reno Tour every year. Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa is such a great, local organization (the tour is a fundraiser for Habitat). Although the tour is virtual again this year, it is a great opportunity to showcase our work and connect with people who are considering a design-build renovation.
Q: Why choose this project for the tour?
A: This was an extensive, whole-home renovation, with significant structural alterations, multiple bathrooms, a complete kitchen re-do, as well as every other room in the home. We prefer to show off as much of a home as possible. When we have a great renovation that is available for the tour and it encompasses the whole home, all the better to showcase.
Q: Tell us a bit about this project.
A: The house was gutted to the studs and major structural work allowed for removal of a significant number of walls, creating wonderfully open spaces compared to what was previously a chopped up rental property. The designer on the project, Michelle McKenna, did a fantastic job working within the restraints of the structural engineering requirements and then followed up with fixtures and finishes that brought the home to life in a stunning way, reflecting the homeowners’ personal taste.
Q: What should visitors watch out for when they tour the project?
A: The esthetic is interesting in that it is quirky and shows the personality of the homeowners, with a variety of unique rooms and spaces, yet there is a continuity and flow to the whole project. As well, I would have them try to imagine what this home may have looked like as a multi-unit rental property — and look at it now. Quite a transformation.
Q: Will you be adding any extra details, such as pop-up info on materials used or being able to see before shots from the same angle?
A: We sure will, but you will have to buy a ticket to find out what we have in store for our visitors.
